About Tirmamo
Empowering Communities Through Local Solutions
TIRMAMO is a community-based organization working to improve the lives and livelihoods of pastoralist communities in Marsabit County, Kenya.
Our work focuses on strengthening community resilience, expanding access to education, improving livelihoods, supporting climate adaptation, promoting health and well-being, strengthening governance and building peaceful and cohesive communities.
We believe development is most effective when communities have a meaningful role in shaping the solutions that affect their lives.
Born From the Community
North Horr Constituency is home to pastoralist communities spread across North Horr, Maikona, Dukana and Turbi.
These communities face persistent challenges including limited access to education, recurring droughts, food insecurity, inadequate healthcare and marginalization from mainstream development.
TIRMAMO was founded by community members who understand these challenges firsthand.
A group of community leaders and professionals came together around a shared vision of self-reliance, dignity and sustainable development.
The organization was established to address the root causes of poverty and vulnerability while building on the strengths, knowledge and resilience already present within pastoralist communities.
Our identity is deeply connected to the land and people we serve.
We believe sustainable development must be rooted in community ownership, cultural sensitivity and indigenous knowledge systems.
